Company Profile

Hunter Imaging Group has a strong tradition of providing the Hunter region with accurate diagnostic imaging. Hunter Imaging Group has been in existence in its current form since 1998 and is the result of a merger between two long standing Novocastrian diagnostic imaging practices - Hunter Valley Medical Imaging and Newcastle Diagnostic Imaging. These practices go back to the 1920's and 1930's respectively.

The merger in 1998 was not the first time that these two privately owned practices have joined forces. In 1978 they combined in a joint venture to bring the first CT scanner to Newcastle and shortly after an ultrasound unit.

In 1997 it was obvious to both practices that there would be substantial benefits resulting from a more comprehensive and permanent amalgamation. With a high rate of change occurring in radiology a merger would bring with it the ability to provide Newcastle with contemporary diagnostic imaging techniques, as well as a string of sites that were all managed and staffed by clinicians with a broad range of expertise.

Hunter Imaging Group now incorporates the Hunter Women’s Imaging and the Cardiovascular Centre which provide specialist imaging services to the local community. The Hunter Womens Imaging centre is designed to meet the specific needs of women’s health providing a comfortable environment for women to receive top of the line specialist radiological services. The Cardiovascular Centre provides specialist cardiovascular imaging services to the community.

More recently Hunter Imaging Group was acquired by Sonic Healthcare. Sonic Healthcare is an international medical diagnostics company, offering extensive pathology and radiology services to the international medical community. With the corporate backing that Sonic Healthcare has provided Hunter Imaging Group has been able to extend its quality services in the local region.
