Biography

Dr Darrilyn Greenberg Studied Medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. She trained in Radiology in Johannesburg and lectured at the same university. Her lifelong interest in woman's imaging began with a master's thesis on screening in black South African women. After moving to Auckland in 1995 she worked at North Shore Hospital and St Mark's Breast Centre, before being headhunted to set up the fledgling national breast screening programme - BreastScreen Aotearoa. A move to Sydney followed with work at Bankstown Lidcombe hospital. She subsequently developed a passion for community radiology. Dr Greenberg explains that just as  the general practitioner is the first port of call for both simple and complex cases, so is the community radiologist the first imager to see a variety of cases in the community. Some are easily solved, some are complex and require further tests, some need help with pain relief, some have good news, and some have their worst day ever. All require a diagnosis and  a close as possible relationship with their other doctors, and those that need pain management may need simple expert imaging guided intervention. This is the challenge of general radiology.
