Mammography is an important tool for the detection of breast pathology. A mammogram examination involves compression of the breast tissue for each of the images taken. This compression is required to obtain a clear picture of the structures within the breast and is crucial as the structures which are evaluated are very small. A trained technician will guide your positioning during the examination.
Images are acquired of breast tissue with the use of x-rays. During breast compression x-rays travel through the breast and are received on a digital or computerised plate behind the breast. An image is generated from this process. Dose to the breast tissue will be kept to a minimum for each mammogram performed.

You can make an appointment for your mammogram with Hunter Imaging Group, at certain branches. Our patient services department will assist you with any question related to your mammogram.
