An Ovarian Vein Incompetance Ultrasound is an ultrasound examination of the ovarian veins and iliac veins located in your abdomen. If the valves do not work in these veins and there is “reflux” in them, it can cause lower abdominal/pelvic symptoms and/or varicose veins around the groin or vulvul regions.
- You will be taken to a private room. A sonographer will explain the procedure and answer any questions you may have.
- You will be asked to remove clothing to access your abdomen and to lie on a couch in a semi-sitting position.
- Gel is placed on the area of interest so that the sound waves can pass through to the relevant vessels. The veins in your abdomen will be visualised down to your lower abdomen. You will feel some pressure on your abdomen. It is important to keep your “tummy” relaxed.
- The examination takes approximately 60 minutes.
