The Ultrasound Leg Arteries – Scan Only is an examination to assess and locate the amount of plaques in your arteries. It is usually performed to help your doctor manage a condition you may have such as; painful feet, ulcers on your legs, pain/tightness in the leg or calf muscle or follow-up after surgery on your leg. For more information please see our patient information brochure for this examination.
As there are a range of reasons why you are having this test, it is best discussed with your doctor.
- You will be taken to a private room. A staff member will explain the procedure and answer any questions you may have.
- You will be asked to remove outer clothing from your lower body.
- Gel will be placed on the skin so that the sound waves can pass through to the relevant vessels. This will be from the abdomen down to the ankles.
- The Colour Duplex ultrasound takes approximately one hour.
